I do this to myself too often.

Photo, mat cutter, office floor, band-aids. Run across the street in blustery, Chicago rain to Fed Ex at the Hilton. Overnight piece to Denver so it can get down to Bogotá.

One of these days I will learn to pay attention to my calendar and that it’s never a good idea to cut mats in a dress.

‘Luminous art’ exhibit illuminates galleries at Urban Institute for Contemporary Arts

GRAND RAPIDS — The Urban Institute for Contemporary Arts hopes to eclipse winter’s darkness with a new exhibit, “Beacons: An Exhibition of Luminous Art.”

UICA last year launched a national campaign inviting artists to light up the various rooms and galleries inside the facility at 41 Sheldon Blvd. SE.

The show, which runs through Feb. 13, features 33 local and national artists who use film and video projections, light installations, sound installations, images, objects and more to visually and physically ignite the UICA.

new experiment

The Iron Bowl was amazing.  My brother and I were lucky enough to sit in the “integrated” fan section.  I haven’t gotten into the audio yet but if it sounds like what I heard around me, wow.  This diptych was taken right before kick off.  It got rowdy from there.

Here is the rear view from my cellphone.  No, our scarves aren’t gingham, they are houndstooth.  Yes, that is an Auburn fan behind us in a tiger print bathrobe.
